Transport Minister Mike Penning to reveal results of quiet deliveries trial

Published to the CV Show website on
24/06/2011

Delivering goods out-of-hours can ease road congestion, cut pollution in local areas and save businesses time and money. However, the impact of night-time deliveries on local residents' right to a good night's sleep has never been properly tested ... until now. The results of the Quiet Deliveries Demonstration Scheme (QDDS) will be revealed by Transport Minister Mike Penning on Tuesday 28 June at 13.00 at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in London.

The QDDS supported a series of quiet delivery demonstration trials at retail premises across England during 2010 to illustrate the potential benefits of allowing commercial vehicle deliveries in the late evening or early morning, whilst still protecting local residents from excessive noise. It was developed by a consortium comprising the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the Noise Abatement Society (NAS) and the Department for Transport (DfT), and managed by Transport and Travel Research (TTR).

Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, will launch the press event, after which the results of the trials, the methodology and the findings and analysis will be presented and discussed.
