Skills on the agenda

Published to the CV Show website on

The road freight transport industry was put on notice this week that government and Traffic Commissioners have no intention of backing away from the controversial Driver CPC, despite the high risk that it will miss the September 2014 deadline to get most HGV driver through the required 35 hours of approved training.

Some sort of derogation – possibly for older drivers – was widely expected to ease the burden on drivers and employers but the UK government is adamant it does not want to face legal action by the European Union for failing to implement the directive.

Employers will, however, get plenty of help with Driver CPC and other training from the long awaited National Skills Academy for Logistics, which finally got matched funding from government after narrowly missing out in previous rounds.
