Reading Buses orders six new smaller buses

After extensive trials and evaluation, Reading Buses has announced a six figure order for six new smaller buses which will meet its needs into the future.

The local operator has purchased class-leading Wrightbus StreetLite 33-seater vehicles in a deal which Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer James Freeman says is a 'really excellent one'.

"This will give us a high specification smaller bus at a price we can afford. The vehicle is distinctive and will offer our passengers an exceptional light and air environment in which to travel.

"At the same time," said Mr. Freeman, "we shall be able to maximise our vehicle earning capacity."

He thanked the drivers who had trialled a number of buses in service prior to the company making its final decision.

The Wrightbus StreetLite buses in a new distinct livery design will enter service with Reading Buses on routes 19, 19a, 27, 29 and 142 from next January.

Said Mr. Freeman: "They will have tinted windows and a six-camera CCTV system for passenger safety and comfort.

"The new buses will have Euro 5 diesel engines which represent the last 'green technology'. The StreetLites not only bring new technology to the midi bus sector, but also new design and innovation features," he added.

Mr. Steve Jackson, Wrightbus National Accounts Manager, said: "StreetLite continues to impress operators on vehicle trials. We are delighted that Reading Buses has decided to introduce the vehicle to its operational fleet.

"It certainly confirms our belief that operators are looking for lighter, more fuel efficient and cost effective buses that minimise whole life vehicle costs," he added.
