Highways contractor Connect Plus has put 27 new MAN gritter trucks to work on the M25, the UK's busiest motorway.  The firm is a consortium comprising Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Atkins and Egis.  There are 12 three-axle and 15 four-axle rigids, all with MAN engines and TipMatic gearboxes and all supplied to MAN's ex-factory gritter specification.  All have Aebi Schmid bodies with pre-wet and dry salt spreaders and gear.  The new trucks meet Balfour Beatty's 'Zero Harm' safety policy and have systems to automate the main gritting processes.  This means drivers can concentrate on the road without having to worry about managing snow ploughing and gritting work.  Balfour Beatty Plant and Fleet Services supplied the new trucks.
