More Scanias for KB Event

Nottingham-based KB Event Ltd just got seven new Scania trucks in a partial fleet renewal deal, won by Keltruck.  Five R series add to the firm’s fleet and two G series trucks, with 26ft box bodies and fitted with tail lifts, replace older waggons.  All seven are on five year Support Programmes, with full repair and maintenance by Keltruck, backed by Scania’s 94 UK service points.  KB Event’s MD, Stuart says the firm chose high specification trucks to help residual values, keep drivers happy and protect the environment.  The firm has steadily increased the number of Scanias in its fleet.  KB Event handled transport and team management for the G20 Summit last year.

Eight Tempos for Transdev’s East Lancs route

Transdev Blazefield subsidiary Lancashire United Transport just got eight Optare 12m Tempo heavy-duty single-decker buses.  These will work on the firm’s 225 route between Bolton and Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley, East Lancashire.  Each bus has 49 black leather Esteban seats, double glazing for the passenger compartment, Denso air conditioning for the driver and a Compak powered ramp for wheelchair access.  The Tempo has a 210kW and 1120 Nm Euro 5 Mercedes-Benz driving through an Allison T310R five-speed automatic transmission with integral retarder.  Ray Stenning of Best Impressions did the new livery and external route branding.

European heavy trailer demand rising

Trailer specialist Gary Beecroft of consultants Clear says Western European trailer markets fell 51% last year but he expects a 16% rebound this year.  This is in spite the first half on 2010 running at 8% below 2009’s figure.  Beecroft’s optimism was widely borne out by trailer and truck makers at the Hannover IAA last week; several expect that this year’s deliveries may rise by an average of 20% across Europe, compared to last year’s dismal figures.  The first half of 2010 ran at 8% below 2009’s figure, but by April/May most countries’ trailer registrations positive and Beecroft thinks the full year will end with trailer registrations alone up 16%.

Bullwell moves

Trailer repair and maintenance firm Bullwell Trailer Solutions Ltd, has moved from Tamworth to new a new, two acre HQ in Lichfield.  The firm, which employs 81 people says the move follows “sustained growth and expansion” in both its operations and service capability, with up from £3.5m in 2007 to a projected £5.5m by its November year-end.  Customers include DHL, Royal Mail, TK Maxx, UK Mail and trailer makers the Cartwright Group.  Bullwell maintains some 5,000 trailers across the UK and Ireland, with 1,400 on its Fixed Price Maintenance deal, due to rise to 2,000 by the end of next year.

Hybrid retrofit from Ashwoods

Ashwoods Automotive says its hybrid drive unit can be retrofitted to most Ford Transit vans in less than four hours.  The firm says its system typically cuts fuel use by between 25 and 25%, depending on the job.  It says this gives operators an opportunity to make “significant” cuts in fuel costs and so CO2 emissions, without the need to buy new vehicles.

Cartwright wins Asda home-delivery van deal

Manchester-based trailer maker and bodybuilder just won an order to body 50 automatic Iveco Daily 3.5 tonners for Wal-Mart’s UK subsidiary Asda.  The supermarket will use the new light trucks for home delivery work.  Each can carry 105 tote boxes with chilled, frozen and ambient produce.  The deal is Cartwright’s first move into the rapidly expanding home delivery market, in which it hopes for more successes.  Asda is a big customer for the firm.

NYK starts LCL run between Europe and China

NYK Logistics North Continent just launched a weekly, less-than-container-load (LCL) service between Hong Kong and Rotterdam.  This includes onward distribution available throughout Europe and China.  The service uses direct sailings run by Double Wing Express to cut shipping times and offers a factory pick-up to final delivery deal.  Real-time track-and-trace can monitor the container’s progress at all times.

New truck racing video game from Renault

Renault Trucks has a new version of its popular Truck Racing video game.  Developed with MKR-Technology, the game has new 100mph, 1,100hp trucks, new circuits, new driving sensations and an online, multiplayer format.  Renault expects the new version will beat the first’s 620,000 downloads.  The new game is also free to download at  A new feature means you can play online with up to 16 other drivers.  Renault says the new trucks perform better and the new game has more and harder levels to give longer playing time for all.  It also offers you the opportunity to decorate your own truck, changing colours, and stickers or chrome work.

Sissons to go all MAN

GW Sissons & Son Ltd just got the first two of 12 new MAN TGX 6×2 tractor units with top-of-the-range XXL cabs.  The rest will arrive by early next year, signalling Sisson’s move to an all-MAN fleet.  All will run on three-year R&M contracts.  They also have MAN Fleet Management systems, including MAN EcoStyle, MAN’s web-based driver performance tool.  “In its first week our first MAN returned just under 9.0mpg.  It’s bedded in a bit now and we’re seeing over 9.0mpg regularly,” said Bryan Sissons.  For our operation and at 44 tonnes, that’s an exceptional fuel return.”

Van registration analysis on line at VansA2Z
