Liverpool City Council just bought a Smith Edison van from Smith Electric Vehicles.  The deal is part of the Department for Transport's low carbon vehicle procurement programme.   Based on the Ford Transit panel van, the Edison has a range of up to 100 miles on a full battery charge and a top speed of 50mph.  Liverpool's Edison is working in with the council's maintenance and repairs team responsible for some 2,500 public buildings across the city.  The van is among the first to feature Smith's new 51kWhr, lithium-ion battery pack and one of the first fitted with Smith Telemetry, the world's first telematics system for production electric vehicles.
