Cubo drives the Logistics industry forward in the UK & Ireland

Cubo drives the Logistics industry forward in the UK & Ireland. Brexit, Covid and the current HGV driver shortages have all highlighted that the Logistics industry is critical to how we live. Millions of people are involved in making, selling and moving the goods that affect everyone - everywhere.

Cubo constantly innovate and collaborate with industry leaders and their customers. They offer access to data on their web based MyCubo portal, that has a direct impact on their customers’ day-to-day operations, allowing them to operate in a more sustainable way, and enabling them to make changes that result in wide ranging benefits from increasing driver and road safety, to reducing co2 and NOx levels.

They bring together world leading solutions that protect people, the planet, and their customers’ profits. Their partnership with the Irish government and South East Energy Agency in delivering The Greener HGV Programme allows them to demonstrate the impact of their technology on the planet, fleet safety and efficiencies.

Overview
Established in 1987, O’Neill’s International Transport is one of Irelands leading family-owned road hauliers. Working with some of the world’s leading producers of pharmaceuticals, electronics, and fresh produce.
• Industry: Haulage
• Location: Tralee, Co. Kerry, Ireland
• Fleet size: 45
• Vehicle type(s): Trucks and Trailers (multi temp/split doors/ double deck/pharmaceutical certified)

The Challenge
With routes all over Europe and a daily service to Scandinavia, O’Neills were experiencing difficulties around reliable remote tachograph and drivers card downloading when on the continent. Driver safety and compliance is at the forefront of their operation, so they were searching for a supplier who could partner with their Tachograph Analysis provider. O’Neill’s emphasis on efficiencies led them to focus on how developing a professional driving culture could help with not only fuel savings, but with reducing their impact on the environment. The team needed data around driving behaviour and subsequent fuel usage to establish baselines, so they could analyse and make improvements in these areas to help them in their new focus on sustainability.

The Solution
Cubo recommended that O’Neill’s apply to The Greener HGV Programme to avail of a 30% technology software & hardware grant which aligned with O’Neill’s focus on sustainability. The Greener HGV Programme also brings real fuel savings to Irish Fleet companies by subsidising the use of Cubo’s innovative technology and driver training.

The hardware fitted included.
• Vehicle Tracker
• Fuel monitor
• Remote downloader for both Vehicle Unit and Driver Card data.
• 4-way DVR cameras (forward facing, both sides and blind spot)
• Driver Awareness Panel (DAP)

Baseline data was recorded for 12 weeks, without any intervention. At which stage GENCAT delivered their Professional Driver Training programme, and the Driver Awareness Panels were switched on inside the cab. The data was then monitored month on month post training and verified by South East Energy Agency

The level of integration that Cubo provides keeps things simple. With a single log in on MyCubo, O’Neills can now:
• Track their vehicles in real time.
• Get actionable data with insights into driver behaviour and vehicle performance.
• Click straight into 4-way cameras to access live footage or download incident footage.
• Automatically download tachograph data with direct integration into GENCAT analysis software.

The Impact
Through the Greener HGV Programme, O’Neills have been able to make real improvements in these 3 Key Performance Indicators
1. Excess RPM
2. Harsh Brakes
3. Idle Time

This has had a significant impact on the business efficiencies – saving 9.3% in fuel. As well as prioritising driver safety and standards, O’Neills can now clearly demonstrate their commitment to the environment.
