Boost for wholesale van values in June, reports Manheim Remarketing

Manheim Remarketing's latest monthly Market Analysis for Vans reveals that average wholesale used van values were boosted by an increase of 8.2% (£315) to £4,156 in June, higher than at any time since June 2010. The increase was due in part to a fall in average age of three months to 54 months and in average mileage of 2,484 to 73,578 miles. When compared with June 2010, average values are 3.4% (£145) lower, average age is three months higher and average mileage is up by 2,087 miles.

Notable examples of increases in average values include Car Derived Vans which rose by 2.4% (£62) to £2,623, Small Panel Vans by 4.4% (£170) to £4,057, Large Panel Vans < 3.0t by 3.4% (£128) to £3,851, Large Panel Vans >3.0t by 9.0% (£355) to £4,276 and 4x4s which increased by 4.3% (£295) to £7,126.

James Davis, General Manager, Commercial Vehicles, Manheim Remarketing said: "Detailed scrutiny of each market segment is required in order to explain headline price movements in the wholesale van marketplace. In June the overall reduction in average age and mileage has logically resulted in an increase in average sale value. This follows the previous month where the market experienced the largest ever single monthly swing of average age, up by 4 months. Annual mileage has been increasing in the small panel van segment over the last thirteen months but falling in the large panel van segments despite average age remaining relatively constant in the latter. This reflects the wider application and greater usage of small panel vans, specifically when compared with the 3.5t 'workhorse' segment. The latter's used market performances and de-fleet volumes are more closely related to the overall performance of the economy."
